Gerber® Good Start® Infant Sleep Survey shows

90 percent of mothers struggle to get a good night’s sleep

FLORHAM PARK, NJ (Sept. 14, 2015) – Gerber® Good Start® Gentle is giving sleep-deprived mothers the ABCs for catching more Z’s. Nine in 10 moms with young babies report difficulty in getting a good night’s sleep every night – based on the Gerber® Good Start® Infant Sleep Survey– so the brand is providing free, one-on-one consultations with sleep coach Christina Gantcher.

The service is being launched through Gerber’s Parents Resource Center as part of Gerber® Good Start® Gentle’s “Formula for Happiness™” campaign, which is focused on supporting parents as they find their own, personal formula for happiness with their young babies.

“Sleepy moms need help. They go to the grocery store and forget things, they put things in the wrong place, they skip workouts,” said Renee Seabolt, Associate Director, Consumer Engagement Services. “Over 40 percent of moms surveyed have considered using a sleep coach, but never knew where to find one or couldn’t afford it. Gerber® Good Start® Gentle is helping to change that. By having a complementary sleep consultation at their fingertips, parents can learn tips on how they and their young babies can rest more easily.”

Gerber’s survey of 1,000 mothers with young babies identified the impact of sleep on today’s households and found:

92 percent of moms said they will skip exercise, and 77 percent wear clothes more than once to avoid doing laundry.

74 percent said they rocked their baby continuously for more than an hour, and many take precautions to avoid awaking their baby, including refraining from shutting doors, avoiding certain parts of the house and turning their phones on silent.
Over one-third of respondents indicated they get a good night’s sleep one night per week or less.

“In working with many moms, and as a mom myself, I know that no two situations are the same, but that when baby sleeps, there’s a better chance everyone else is sleeping too, and a feeling of happiness extends to the entire household,” Gantcher said. “Knowing many new parents struggle with sleep, I’m excited to be partnering with Gerber® Good Start® to help parents on their sleep journeys.”

Gantcher will be available to provide sleep advice to parents via phone consultations five days per week. To schedule an appointment, visit Gerber.com/experts to sign up via an online scheduler or call the Gerber® Parents Resource Center at 1-800-284-9488.

For more information and additional complementary services – including infant nutrition advice from a registered dietician and breastfeeding support from a lactation consultant – parents can visit Gerber.com or contact the Parents Resource Center.
